She turns the page of her book and adjusts her position so that her leg doesn't go numb.
"What the hell are you doing?"
Moon looks up, her sunglasses sliding down her nose as she grins at her brother. "I'm sunning myself."
Ruin just stares at her. "Moon. You're out here naked. What if someone came by?"
"It's a desert island," she points out with the 'duh' implied. "I'm alone."
"No natives?" he asks, his arms crossed.
She shrugs, her hair only covering the upper swell her breasts. "Who cares? If there are, they're probably just as naked." Moon sits up, folding her legs and resting her book in her lap. She'd been out here for a while now, her skin covered in a light sheen of sweat. The cards didn't necessarily register the heat or the cold, but their bodies reacted to their climates. It was blistering hot out here, and she was without shade, and so her entire body shimmered. "What're you doing here?"
"Family's worried about you." Frown. "Again. I don't know what the hell Choice was going on about, but he talked and talked until I finally left to come find you."
Moon grins up at him. "Choice talks too much."
"What's going on with you?" Ruin gives her a good up and down look, not sure about how to handle his happy, nude sister sunning herself on the beach. "I mean, why are you sunning yourself? You don't tan."
She pouts a little. "It's normal."
"Moon, honey," he says slowly. "We're not normal. We're fucking tarot cards."
"But we're in that bar with people who just want to talk and I don't know how to do that!" she wails pitifully. "It's something normal. So is this. Maybe if I can read and sun myself, I can move toward comfortable conversation."
Ruin leans against a nearby tree and raises an eyebrow. "Who has filled your head with such nonsense? Hmm? Was it that vampire? I knew I should've kept him away from you."
"No." Moon plays with her big toe so she doesn't have to look at Ruin. "I haven't seen Santino in a while."
"Then the man Mary Anne says you went on a holiday with?" he guesses next.
Moon glares at him now. "Why does it have to be anyone or anything that makes me want to be normal?"
"Because you didn't before," Ruin says as gently as he is capable.
"I did, though. A long time ago, I wanted to be like the other sentients." Moon sighs sadly and turns her eyes to the water. "Normal means you can be furious or sobbing or in love."
"Furious leads to headaches, as does sobbing, and while I'm thinking about it, so does love." Ruin scoffs, shaking his head. "Be happy you are as you are. Some of us would kill for that."
Moon sniffs, feeling the heat in her eyes again. Still, no tears fell, they only welled. "And if I would kill for anything but?"
"Don't be an idiot," he snaps. "You can't kill a bug let alone anything large enough to give you that wish. You're The Moon, cold and severe in your lunacy. We love you like that. Don't go changing in haste what you will regret in leisure."
"Go 'way," she says petulantly. "Go 'way, Ruin."
Ruin walks over to her, pressing a kiss to the warm crown of her head. "Just... take your time, sister-mine." He then strolls to a dense crop of trees and disappears into them.
Moon watches Mons and Mare splash in the surf. She was fond of her family, but they didn't know her. Not like she knew herself. The card picks up her book again and reclines on her towel, again sunning herself.
Who cares if she couldn't get a tan?
This was still fun.
