Surprise Party in Room 1

Moon and Miniver have been working hard since Mia had taken Draco out on their date.

Decorations (in the colours Miniver had suggested instead of Moon's rainbow idea) are hung in the room. Crepe paper braids of orange, greyish blue, and green streak the ceiling. Moon's put up little paper decorations of cakes, balloons, and cartoonish animals dancing. Along with the cardboard balloons, there are huge groups of orange, grey-blue, and green helium balloons scattered all over.

On a table, with a colourful tablecloth depicting very happy cats and dogs partying, is the cake Skill had artfully created for Draco. It's wide sheet cake; the white icing is the basis for the artistically piped images of Martin and Dart flying over a huge forest full of winding paths. The forest ended where the words 'Happy Birthday, Draco!' were written in flowing script. It was the sort of cake a tarot card would make.

Moon giggles as she sets a stack of gifts (all from her family for the birthday boy) on the table beside the cake. She turns to Miniver and grins.

"I hope he's surprised," she says proudly.

It was definitely bright and cheerful and there's glitter everywhere, including on Miniver and Moon.

Moon gives Draco a gentle shove towards the cake.

"Skill make it especially for you!"

She wasn't aware of the whole 'candles lit on the cake for the number of years you've been alive'. Just be happy it's all one flavour and colour!

When they were done with the whole cake thing, he could open his presents.

Tom gave Draco one present already. It was a small thing, a token of their friendship. He has another one for him, as well. This one's a little more special.

"Thank you, Tom. Again." Hey, Draco likes multiple presents. If people want to give him more, well he deserves it, right? Or at least, he won't complain. For once.

It's a slim parcel. When Draco opens it, he'll find the latest issue of Transfiguration Today. A page is marked with a silver filigree bookmark. When Draco turns to that page, he'll see an article entitled "Theoretical Transfiguration and in Doorway and Opening Charmwork" credited to one Thomas Riddle and one Daniel Mallory.

"I can't use our real names, of course, but you did quite a lot of research for me on this particular article, and I thought you deserved the credit."

For one article anyway. It is Draco's birthday present after all.

Draco blinked at that, and skimmed over the page. A published writer.

He quietly replied, "Cheers... Tom." He likes it, and is rather stunned for a moment.

She's, not the biggest in the room but she is, a big fan of Draco and so she's grinning cute and small, holding a wrapped gift in her hands.

Though she's absently looking toward the cake.

She's really missed home.

"Hello Star, thank you," Draco peered down at the gift before opening. "Liked the reception you gave Mia and I."

She giggled happily, and it sounded quite like little bells. "Someone mentioned throwing glitter but we had used it on the tables, so I though it might be fun."

Draco nodded as he undid the wrapping paper on the gift.

"It was," he agreed.

Well, be hard to guess his age really. Somewhere around 18-19 now, since it was shortly after his 17th birthday when he first arrived in Milliways. And that will be two years next fall.

He stared at the scene briefly, recognizing Martin and Dart easily. It was odd, not even the birthday cake looked anything like this. Usually it was more understated, or much more lavish that this.

Moon hands him a cake knife.

"Go on and cut it. Eat a new path," she says with an excited giggle.

Draco gave her an odd look at that, but then smiled. He then cut the cake, and placed the knife down. Better that he doesn't try to cut slices, because he doesn't know his way around a kitchen at all. Never had a reason to.

What Rabastan has to give does not come in a box, or an envelope or even a gift bag.

No. What he's got is something far more important than anything material, and Merlin knows Draco's never lacked when it came to material things.

When Draco comes over he'll give what he has to give to the young man.

Draco did finally approach, a bit puzzled at him. Wasn't angry so... what was going on?

Why should he be angry? Even with all the unpleasantries from last month there's no reason to.

Mia and Draco are not very different. Or at least, judging from their upbringings, they were not encouraged to be very different. As a result, she's not skilled in much beyond magic herself.

That doesn't stop her from making a present for Draco, though.

It is small and intricate. The care in detail can be seen in every little feather of the wings, every little marking on the horns.

It truly is a beautiful white dragon.

"I told you I had work to do last night."

Miniver has his hidden. He brings it out when he has Draco a little to himself for a moment.

Into Draco's hands gets shoved a small, square package, neatly wrapped in brown paper and twine. The paper's been decorated with squiggles in gold ink. It's actually kind of pretty.

Draco does in fact get a free moment, and of course, he'd make sure to have one for Miniver.

He couldn't help chuckling at the package. He held it up for a moment.

"Very you. Thank you." A brief embrace and kiss before he unwrapped it.

Miniver grins and leans his head against Draco's shoulder for a moment.

Inside the package is a little box, and inside that... something that might actually be quite familiar to Draco. A moonstone pendant. But Miniver still has his, wearing it in plain view, and Mia has the one Draco gave her...

Tom has fetched Ingress for the cake portion of this party. How could he not? She'd never forgive him if she knew she was missing out on icing roses.

Besides, she has a special present for Draco.

"Hi! Happy birthday! Draco, we have the same star sign; my birthday was just a little while ago. I'm eight. How old are you?"

She might have gotten a bit of icing on the way in.

This is, in fact, a compliment. Door's far too grown up much of the time.
