Surprise Party in Room 1

Moon and Miniver have been working hard since Mia had taken Draco out on their date.

Decorations (in the colours Miniver had suggested instead of Moon's rainbow idea) are hung in the room. Crepe paper braids of orange, greyish blue, and green streak the ceiling. Moon's put up little paper decorations of cakes, balloons, and cartoonish animals dancing. Along with the cardboard balloons, there are huge groups of orange, grey-blue, and green helium balloons scattered all over.

On a table, with a colourful tablecloth depicting very happy cats and dogs partying, is the cake Skill had artfully created for Draco. It's wide sheet cake; the white icing is the basis for the artistically piped images of Martin and Dart flying over a huge forest full of winding paths. The forest ended where the words 'Happy Birthday, Draco!' were written in flowing script. It was the sort of cake a tarot card would make.

Moon giggles as she sets a stack of gifts (all from her family for the birthday boy) on the table beside the cake. She turns to Miniver and grins.

"I hope he's surprised," she says proudly.

It was definitely bright and cheerful and there's glitter everywhere, including on Miniver and Moon.

Tom's heard of surprise parties, of course. But he's never actually attended one. Hiding in the dark waiting to ambush someone tends to have less than positive connotations for him.

And yet, here he is. Hiding in the dark. Maybe he ought to throw in a Jelly Leg Jinx just for the hell of it.

No. That would not be an appropriate birthday surprise.

It would be bloody funny, though.

Hiding in the dark would make Rabastan nervy too, and for pretty much the same reasons.

He's not thinking of any of that because this is a birthday party for Draco, and he fully intends to have fun. Dangit.

Oh cool, he muses to himself, looking about the dark room for a sign of Draco's arrival. I can see everyone. Even in the dark. Marvy!

The most fun of being a Tarot is being able to do little things no one would ever expect. So Star is actually sitting above the entrance door on the air, and she is waiting to shower down some harmless but brilliant star light sparkles on the birthday boy the moment he comes in.

Footsteps can be heard approaching and a soft voice says, "You know, I don't believe I've ever been to your room before."

What Mia really means is this: Everything better be ready because Draco's coming!

Luckily for all, Draco was speaking loudly in his bragging voice, "Well, here's your chance. I designed it much after some of the rooms back in the Manor. Just mind the area with potions."

He went to open the door, and it creaked open.

"I'll get some lights on in a moment," he added as he walked into the room.

At the exact moment the door opened and the cries began, Star giggled and set off a fountain of bright star lights twinkler's falling across the two people walking through the doorway.

No one told her to say surprise, so she did it her own way and giggled when they yelled it.

Draco was taken aback by the yells, and the shower of starlight twinkling on him and Mia.

He blinked in surprise at the small group of familiar faces. Family, and friends who might as well be family. People he loved and cared about.

He glanced back at Mia, and then asked, "Hello? What's going on?"

Mia can't hold her joy in anymore.

She reaches up and gives him a kiss on the cheek.

"Happy birthday, Draco."

Draco turned toward her again, and then the group again, "Oh that's right... it is today here. I had lost track." He blinked a few more times. Nothing like the parties that his parents had thrown. They certainly never would have used those colors... What the? Odd combination.

"...Thank you?"

Above them is a giggling little blonde who floats sort of down on his side and gently pushed him from where he's still standing toward the carousing others.

"Go on! Stop hogging the door. There are presents and people to see!"

Mia will have to tolerate Draco getting snatched away at least for a moment. Miniver wants his turn with the snogging.

"Happy birthday, Bosie," he whispers into Draco's ear before taking a small step back to make room for him and Mia to come in.

Draco smiled at him and then asked, "Thank you. Were the colors your idea?" He stepped further into the room to make space for Mia to enter in completely, and more space for well wishers.

Moon giggles and steps forward.

"I wanted to do pink and gold and red and bright blue, but Miniver thought these were better." She kisses him on the cheek. "Happy birthday, little wizard."

He is standing where he was crouched down in wait before Draco entered the room. He's standing now but hasn't moved from that spot though; he's just waiting for his chance to offer Draco his well-wishes.

"Thank you."

Draco's jaw dropped at the mention of colors. "Pink? RED AND GOLD?!? Urgh, glad you went with Miniver's idea." Gryffindor colors honestly! And with Master Salazar in the room no less. Be a near insult to fellow Slytherins. The blue would be borderline tolerable but not red and gold for Merlin's sake.

He then turned, and noticed his uncle. Hmmm... this was slightly awkward.

"Hello, Uncle."

Tension. Suddenly there's a lot of it in the room.

"Red and gold's not that bad a colour scheme is it?" he asks. "It's bright and cheerful, wouldn't you say?"

The smile he's wearing is in fact very genuine.

"Hello Draco. I came to see you, to be here for your birthday."

Sod Misery. Right now he didn't care what words she'd have for him later. Draco is family, and family you are there for, no matter what.

"Uncle please? Most of us are Slytherins, it would be insulting." Draco remarked.

He added slightly nervous, "Oh, well glad you could make it."

He arches an eyebrow.

"So perhaps I should not tell you about the gold-trimmed dress robes I was planning to wear for your party?"

His robes are a muted indigo instead, with purple here and there.

"Of course I made it. It's your birthday. And for you they'd have to shut me away again to keep me from coming here."

Draco ignored the robe comment, and gave a small smile, "Thank you. Excuse me," A proper Malfoy, has to greet all the guests.
