Surprise Party in Room 1

Moon and Miniver have been working hard since Mia had taken Draco out on their date.

Decorations (in the colours Miniver had suggested instead of Moon's rainbow idea) are hung in the room. Crepe paper braids of orange, greyish blue, and green streak the ceiling. Moon's put up little paper decorations of cakes, balloons, and cartoonish animals dancing. Along with the cardboard balloons, there are huge groups of orange, grey-blue, and green helium balloons scattered all over.

On a table, with a colourful tablecloth depicting very happy cats and dogs partying, is the cake Skill had artfully created for Draco. It's wide sheet cake; the white icing is the basis for the artistically piped images of Martin and Dart flying over a huge forest full of winding paths. The forest ended where the words 'Happy Birthday, Draco!' were written in flowing script. It was the sort of cake a tarot card would make.

Moon giggles as she sets a stack of gifts (all from her family for the birthday boy) on the table beside the cake. She turns to Miniver and grins.

"I hope he's surprised," she says proudly.

It was definitely bright and cheerful and there's glitter everywhere, including on Miniver and Moon.

Miniver looks startled to be asked, but smiles shyly. "Um, really? Yeah, okay, sure..."

She gives him her hand, ready for him to lead.

With a nervous laugh, he takes her hand, and leads her into the cleared space to dance. He slips into position correctly, if not perfectly gracefully, seeming a little afraid to touch her. Tense.

"I'm not made of glass, you know."

"Sorry." He makes an effort to relax. "I'm not used to being near girls. I um... y'know... don't really know what to do with 'em."

"Well, I'm just another person. Granted, being a woman makes me a bit different, but that does not mean I'm completely alien."

No, it's being from a different world that makes her completely alien.

"Actually," Miniver says with a chuckle, "it kind of does to me." But he dances well. He leads her in a waltz which is -- not perfect, but passable. He doesn't trip over his feet or anything.

"I only mean that men and women don't really have to be treated differently. Just treat me however you like to treat me."

Miniver laughs. "Okay." And he DOES seem to relax, holding her a bit more firmly as they dance, stepping with more certainty.

"And you were worried."

"Well--yeah! Girls are, you know... girls!"

He's got nothin', really.

"You're a good dancer. Well, yeah, you would be..."

"Yes, I imagine I'm quite frightening."

She blinks a little before she remembers, oh yes, Miniver does know about her position.

"Well, thank you. You're pretty good yourself."

"I used to read the steps in books and practice to LPs of classical music, pretending like someday I'd get asked to dance by some beautiful courtier or princess..." He grins at her. "Looks like I was right."

"For someone who doesn't know what to do with girls, you're doing a pretty good job."

Mia's eyes say inside joke time!

"Too bad my plan was foiled."

"Plan? Um? What plan?" He's blushing at her first statement and almost stumbles a little.

Bad Miniver! No cookie for you!

"Why the devious plan I had of seducing Draco in order to marry you, of course. Now really, you had found me out last night and you already forgot?"

Miniver laughs and ducks his head so his hair falls into his face.

"You still wanna marry me now you know I'm scared to touch girls at all?" he jokes shyly.

"I'm afraid that reminds me too much of the people at home who are afraid to touch me simply because I'm me. But at least I don't have to worry about being the only one in your case."

She simply smiles at him for a moment.

"And even though you admit that you are scared to touch girls, you find some way to dance with me. It is good to face your fear, and perhaps one day you will overcome it."

Miniver laughs at that. "Oh, I hope you're not under the delusion I'll ever fall in love with one," he snickers.

She shakes her head.

"Well no, but it won't hurt to be friends with them. And I'm not even expecting that. It would just be nice."

Miniver slows his dancing and looks at her thoughtfully.

"I think... I would like to be friends with you," he says softly.

Her smile is very bright now.

"I'd like that."
